Leadership Letters

Dear OP Friends,

It’s an honor to write to you for the first time as Executive Director of Operation Parent.

Following Jean Schumm—whose vision and perseverance built this organization—is both humbling and inspiring. Jean’s legacy is woven into every fiber of Operation Parent, and I’m deeply grateful for her continued presence on our board and in our hearts.

Parenting today is more complex than ever. Screens, mental health, substance use, and cultural pressures challenge families daily. But with the right support, education, and community, I believe parents can meet these challenges with confidence and HOPE.

Our organization now operates in the top 8% of nonprofits with a $1M+ budget, reaching 49 states with our handbooks and 60+ countries with our webinars. In 2024, we became debt-free, expanded our global reach, and strengthened our foundation. In 2025, we’re dreaming bigger: building community forums, expanding our curriculum and multilingual resources, launching a new website, and embedding our tools in more communities.

None of this is possible without you.

To our board, donors, partners, volunteers, and friends—thank you. Your support fuels our mission and empowers us to walk alongside parents at every stage.

Let’s dream together: a world where every parent feels equipped, every child supported, and every family has the tools to thrive.

With gratitude and excitement for what's to come,
Darrell Bramer
Executive Director

Leadership Letters

Wow, 2024 was a milestone year for Operation Parent (OP)—and for me. Thanks to our donors, board, staff, and many answered prayers, OP has reached “critical mass” and is ready to dream big.

Our organization runs smoothly because of our dedicated board and staff who are fully committed, and our new Executive Director, Darrell Bramer, who brings unmatched energy and dedication. His energy, empathy, and work ethic are exactly what we need to take OP to the next level. Darrell is truly a divine fit to lead OP forward.

I retired on May 22, 2024, after founding OP in 2006 during my own parenting struggles. Nineteen years later, I still love OP and now serve on the board. The need to support parents remains close to my heart—but so do my eleven grandchildren. It was time to pass the baton.

Watching OP grow has been like watching my family grow—full of ups, downs, milestones and miracles. I give all glory to God and believe He will continue to bless our mission. I’m excited for what’s ahead: an app, curriculum, translations, a podcast, national outreach, and maybe even franchising. Wherever God leads, we’ll follow.

Thank you for helping us help parents. Special thanks to our founding donors, Randy and Sherry Fields, and Bill and Jill Howard, as well as to my husband, Walt, for his support, great parenting and craftsmanship of our headquarters.

Here’s to the future of OP!

Gratefully,
Jean schumm
